Sip for Peace

Week 1

Connecting the experience of tea  . . .

“Drink your tea slowly and reverently, as if it is the axis on which the earth revolves. Slowly, evenly, without rushing toward the future.”

Thicht Nhat Hanh

with visions of world peace.

“Peace is a daily, a weekly, a monthly process, gradually changing opinions, slowly eroding old barriers, quietly building new structures.”

John F. Kennedy

Tea is the most consumed beverage in the world and for many cultures it is used to celebrate meaningful traditions. Sip for Peace is a project with the mission of uniting this world of tea people to create and share visions of a peaceful planet. We remember the visions and voices who believe in the potential that humankind can once again live without war. By holding the visions of this future, perhaps we can create something that no one living has experienced.

Peace is the beauty of life. It is sunshine. It is the smile of a child, the love of a mother, the joy of a father, the togetherness of a family. It is the advancement of man, the victory of a just cause, the triumph of truth.

 Menachem Begin

“Oh Great Spirit, help me always to speak the truth quietly, to listen with an open mind when others speak and to remember the peace that may be found in silence.”

Cherokee Prayer

“My first wish is to see this plague of mankind, war, banished from the earth.”

George Washington

“Sanskrit has 108 words for love. Islam has 99 names for God. Japanese has 14 words for beauty. We’ve got one word for Peace…. We don’t have enough words to accurately describe all the different types of peace. I think it was Socrates who once said if you don’t have a word to describe something, then how can you think about it?”
